Our university’s locations in Krems and Stein
Charming sites featuring expansive green spaces, light-filled campus architecture and a historic medieval building.
A unique character
The various sites that make up IMC Krems are as diverse as the town itself – a place where historic and modern architecture combine to wonderful effect. It's easy to see why so many of our students wax lyrical about the unique charms of our university.
All four of our sites have one thing in common: their outstanding amenities and equipment.
Modern facilities and high-quality fixtures and fittings create environments in which we are sure you will feel comfortable – something which is very important to us.
After all, you’re going to be spending a lot of time with us. At an important stage in your life. So it goes without saying that we want to make your time here as pleasant as possible.

IMC Campus Krems
As far as the eye can see: modern architecture and beautiful countryside.
Campus Krems is actually located in Stein. The town’s real name is Krems and Stein – two towns which have gradually merged into one. Our facilities on Campus Krems are 10 minutes’ walk from the centres of Krems and Stein, and spread across four buildings: Wing G, Wing G1, Wing D and parts of Campus West.
At IMC Campus Krems you are almost entirely surrounded by green countryside. Set against Krems’ hillside vineyards, the grounds, with their neat lawns and inviting benches, are a perfect place to relax between lectures. The ambience of the lecture theatres and seminar rooms is equally appealing, and the ample use of glass affords some eye-catching views. From some floors you can see the Danube, Göttweig Abbey and into the Wachau valley.
Campus overview

Wing G
Wing G is used for lectures and events. It is also where you will find the IMC Lounge, IT support and reception.

Wing G.1
Wing G.1 is right next to Wing G, and a glazed bridge connects the first floors of both buildings. Wing G.1 will probably be where we will welcome you on your first visit to the university, as we hold our application interviews here.
Lectures and seminars take place on all floors, and the health labs can be found on the basement level.
The ground floor of Wing G.1 is the location of the university’s largest indoor space, the main hall. It is used for graduation ceremonies, international conferences and many other kinds of events.

Wing D
Wing D houses the labs for our Applied Chemistry and Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology degree programmes.

Campus West
The facilities at Campus West include spacious practical rooms for the Physiotherapy degree programme. These are used by Campus Sport during semester breaks.

Study, learn and meet: the IMC Lounge
Digital lecture timetables, computer labs and electronic whiteboards.
We employ the latest technology to make sure that studying at IMC Krems is as enjoyable and convenient as possible. We are also very aware of the importance of working and learning together. And to facilitate this, we created the highly versatile IMC Lounge in Wing G.
You can use this 250-square-metre space to work on your own or as part of a small group, or as a venue for larger gatherings. The IMC Lounge has connections to plug in your devices, along with monitors and WiFi. There’s also comfortable seating and sofas for when you want to take a break and relax.
Leisure facilities and places to eat and drink
A university campus just wouldn’t be complete without sport and exercise facilities. From aikido to zumba: Campus Sport offers over 60 courses every semester. And because no one likes to study or exercise on an empty stomach, there are plenty of places to eat and drink on campus. Here’s a quick overview.

Cafeteria
Daily set menus, specials and snacks: the cafeteria is a great place to go for a quick, good-value meal at lunchtime.

Café Virginier
Café Virginier serves hot and cold snacks throughout the day, as well as coffee, cake and ice cream. You can sit outside in the summer.

The Filmbar
The Filmbar takes centre stage in the middle of campus, right next to the Kesselhaus cinema – which explains its name. The varied menu includes soups, salads, pasta and burritos. They also have daily set lunchtime menus and a special Sunday breakfast followed by a movie.

2Stein
This is the largest and most lively place to eat and drink on Campus West, and there’s plenty to choose from on 2Stein’s extensive menu. Come here for everything from breakfast to evening drinks. Its wide selection of burgers is especially popular.

MOYOme CIMBA
MOYOme CIMBA is a stylish little café-bar on Campus West that gets its coffee from a small roastery in St. Pölten. You can also order panini, toasted sandwiches and cheesecake, or stop by at lunchtime for the daily special.
1 campus, 3 universities
We’re lucky to have great neighbours. Danube University Krems and Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences are also based at Campus Krems. The Campus Library is conveniently located for everyone in the centre of campus. It has a catalogue of over 50,000 items as well as offering an inter-library lending service.
The Kolpinghaus student residence is also ideally situated, right next to the campus. It has single and double rooms which can be rented for a whole academic year, or for shorter stays. An inside tip: the breakfast buffet at Kolpinghaus is very reasonably priced and open to all – it’s a great way to start the day, especially if you’re on a tight budget.
Parking at Campus Krems
IMC Campus Krems is located in a green restricted parking zone (grüne Zone), meaning parking charges apply. If you’re coming by car, the best place to park is the Campus West multi-storey car park (Dr.-Karl-Dorrek-Strasse 23) – from there it’s only a 5-minute walk through the campus grounds to our main building.
Our international campus
Our two locations in the historic town centre both have an especially international feel to them. The site on Piaristengasse was the main university building when IMC Krems opened. It is where we welcomed our first intake of 45 students back in 1994. Today, about a third of our students attend their lectures at Piaristengasse.
It is where many of our English-language degree programmes are based. The different languages you hear spoken by exchange students from all over the world in these historic surroundings – a former Piarist college – create a special international atmosphere.
Lectures are held in rooms that were occupied by a Jesuit gymnasium school as early as 1616. Today, in the former refectory – now one of the site’s 13 lecture rooms – students have the whole world at their fingertips when they hook up to the WiFi network.
It’s precisely this combination of history and modern technology that gives IMC Piaristengasse its very distinctive character. A tour of the site never fails to impress visitors. Piaristengasse is totally unique – and it’s part of IMC Krems.

State-of-the-art facilities and a spacious courtyard
Computer labs, electronic whiteboards and digital lecture timetables: don’t let the historic surroundings fool you. The whole building is equipped with the latest technology, not just the seminar and lecture rooms, but the two IMC Lounges as well.
The spacious courtyard is buzzing with life in the summer months. Come here to take a break or prepare for your next presentation. Take a seat at one of the tables and make yourself comfortable!
Down the Piaristenstiege into the centre of town
The historic Piaristenstiege steps take you from IMC Piaristengasse into the very centre of Krems in just 3 minutes.
The market on Pfarrplatz and the restaurants, cafés and shops around Krems’ bustling Landstrasse are all just a stone’s throw away.
You can take care of almost everything on foot – the copy shop is just around the corner from the bakery, and the supermarket only a short walk from the café. This is one of the things that makes living in Krems so pleasant.
Steeped in history
Krems through and through: our historic Gozzoburg castle site is located on Hoher Markt – the oldest part of town – and has a character all of its own. No wonder, considering it dates back over 700 years.
We moved into our premises here in 2017, so it is actually our newest location. IMC Gozzoburg is a centre for our international students and guests.
The building’s unique atmosphere makes it an ideal place to hold functions and entertain visitors . The historic Wappensaal, where trials and council meetings were once held, is also a great venue for events.
Three service centres and a wine cellar
Three of our service centres are located in Gozzoburg:
- The IMC Career Center, which supports students with career planning, organising internships and job hunting. Gozzoburg also has a co-working space that runs a programme for start-ups.
- The IMC International Welcome Center – the first port of call for international full-time students, exchange enquiries and guests from abroad.
- The IMC International Language Center, which offers language and training courses.
You will hear languages from all over the world being spoken within the early gothic walls of Gozzoburg. This is all part of the location’s special charm – just like the wine cellar, which is used by the International Wine Business degree programme. IMC Gozzoburg also has several offices as well as lecture and seminar rooms.
These are all kitted out with the latest technology, including WiFi. The same goes for the on-site Creativity Lab and Media Center. You will find excellent facilities at all of our locations: we aim to make studying at IMC Krems as straightforward and convenient as possible.

Working together: the IMC Co-Working Space
Our co-working space is located in the site’s lower section. The people who work here pay very reasonable monthly rates for a package that offers an undisturbed working environment and views of Krems’ lively Landstrasse. Amenities include meeting rooms, a kitchen, state-of-the-art technical facilities and WiFi.
In the heart of the old town
IMC Gozzoburg is located in the middle of Hoher Markt, the historic centre of Krems. Pfarrplatz and Landstrasse are just around the corner, and IMC Piaristengasse is less than five minutes’ walk away. So one thing’s for sure: you’ll definitely appreciate the site’s central location.
Fancy a bite to eat? Drop by at the in-house Gozzo restaurant, where you can enjoy marvellous views over the rooftops of Krems. Alternatively, head for one of the numerous restaurants or cafés nearby.
A leading innovation and research hub
The university’s Research Institute for Applied Bioanalytics and Drug Development is located at Krems’ Technology and Research Centre (TFZ). Members of the institute form part of a wider research community of like minds. TFZ was conceived as a health technology innovation and research site.
The concept facilitates collaboration between various educational institutions including IMC Krems, the Danube University Krems and Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences.
The site is also home to numerous companies, which opens up opportunities to make contact with potential employers and cooperation partners. The funding and service agencies located here, such as riz up Niederösterreichs Gründeragentur GmbH which focuses on start-ups, represent another major benefit.
TFZ has laboratories with state-of-the art facilities, and is just a short drive from the centre of Krems. It is also very conveniently located if you’re driving from Vienna or St. Pölten. The number 3 bus also stops nearby.
The Lerchenfeld area of Krems: amenities and transport options
TFZ has its own café, and nearby you’ll find a small supermarket, an Orange Wings hotel, a pharmacy and various places to eat and drink.
The site is very easy to reach from Krems as well as Vienna and St. Pölten. If you’re coming by public transport, take Stadtbus number 3 from Krems railway station and get off at Koloman-Wallisch-Strasse. We’re just a few minutes’ walk away.
